Indian Sports: Past and its Future

India is a land of religion, where sports is meant to be similar to gods. People are literally obsessed about the matches. But now a days people are only confined to the cricket matches. People sit in front of their television sets when there is a cricket match. They are not bothered about the other field of sports, India is good in other sports also like, athletics, hockey, air-rifle shooting, swimming, tennis, table tennis, chess, etc.

Now the main factor is where in the nation lacking. Why we are so backward in other fields of sports? Why we only talk about cricket? Why we consider cricket as the king of all games, where as hockey is our national game. Though I know that we are living in a democratic country and people have the right to follow any kind of sports according to their own will. But what I belief is that following only one sport is bad. What's the fault of the other sportsmen?

We are running towards cricket, young women leaves their boyfriends by saying that, "You are not a dude like Virat Kohli." But I asking to all of my readers that why we run after them so much. They are also a human being like us, not more than us. Right now India ended the test match series in Australia, but the team was badly beaten by Aussies. India's test team comprises of all the world renowned seniors, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni. But how much they contributed in the series. But still we are thinking about their way of playing cricket.

We don't consider the filed of sports. If we will take about table tennis, then we have Mouma Das, Poulumi Ghatak, but very less number of people must be aware of them. In Chess we have Dibyendu Burua, Koneru Humpy, but they are not that much renowned. Koneru Humpy is still famous but Dibyendu Burua could not play further because of lack of money. In badminton, we don't praise Saina Nehwal much, but still we praise Sania Mirza though she losses all the matches. She got married to a Pakistani guy but still she is playing for India. Legally she is Pakistani right now. Now she managed herself to be a sex symbol for all the youngsters. May be she forgot to concentrate of her game by thinking about her makeup kit.

We have Vijendra Singh in boxing, Abhinav Bindra in shooting, Pankaj Advani in snooker, but is anybody really interested in the hockey match of India and Pakistan. During the semi-finals of ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, India's Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh was watching the match with President Asif ALi Zardari (Mr. 10%), President of Pakistan. They were so excited. The whole crowd at the Mohali cricket ground were shouting with energy and was singing the same song. The song of winning!!! But has any time PM Manmohan Singh and President Zardari were witnessing the hockey or football match between Indian and Pakistan. the answer will be NO.

I am asking my readers that can't we people of the nation vow once to encourage the sports of India. Especially those people who wants to play for the nation but cannot play due to the shortage of money and lack of strong background. We should also appeal to the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, Ajay Maken that don't take all the money in your own personal accounts, but give away those money to those down-trodden and needy sportsmen and women who are willing to do something for the nation and will perform well when they will provides proper chances. Then may be India will be standing at a strong position when her youngsters will be at the battle field for their own motherland.

  3. either it's the Indian bureaucratic attitude of holding on to lost tradition like " Indian Cricket" or must be the infinite Indian lazy bone keeping us glued to our couches resisting change...........pick any of them...........Indian sports is very unlikely going to get a make over any day soon........unless it decides to go against it's own ghost....
